What I’ll watch this week

Monday: Boca Juniors v Arsenal de Sarandi.  As a Boca fan, I’ll obviously be watching. 10:10 UK time is the scheduled kickoff, meaning 5:10 Eastern US time and 6:10 Buenos Aires time.  I don’t follow every league in the world, but the only meaningful games today are in Argentina.  Estudiantes La Plata plays Racing and Godoy Cruz de Mendoza plays Tigre.   If Godoy Cruz wins, they go top of the league with only 5 games left.  Of course Argentinos Juniors also plays Colon.  right now they have the same number of points as Godoy Cruz but worse goal differential.    Either way, all the games are decent.

Tuesday: Chelsea v Bolton at 8 UK, 4pm Buenos Aires time.   Fiorentina v Inter at 7:45 UK in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.  The two drew 2-2 on Saturday.  I’ll probably watch the Chelsea game, but flip back and forth some.  I’ve never seen Brazilian Keirrison play too much, but he scored on Saturday in his only start of the year.  While he hasn’t done anything at Benfica or Fiorentina yet, it was only a year ago that Barcelona thought he was worth paying £12 million.  He’s still only 21.

Wednesday:  At 8pm UK, Tottenham has Arsenal at White Hart Lane, Aston Villa plays Everton, and Wigan takes on Portsmouth. and Wigan is just outside of relegation right now, and has to expect 3 points at home against Portsmouth.  Meanwhile Aston Villa v Everton will play a huge part in seeing who takes the final Europa League spot.  But the big game is the derby between Tottenham and Arsenal.  Arsenal needs the win to hope for the league title, while Tottenham needs the win for hopes of Champions League.  Did I mention that it’s a derby?

At 7pm UK/2pm BA, Atletico Madrid plays Xerez.  I always enjoy watching Atletico: they’re a boom or bust team with some Rioplatense attacking talent in Argentina’s Sergio Aguero plus Uruguay’s Diego Forlan.  at 9pm UK, 4pm BA Barcelona has Deportivo at the Camp Nou.

At 9pm BA, Racing Club of Uruguay plays Corinthians in Copa Libertadores.  Will watch if I can, not sure if the wife will let me.

Thursday, April 15.   at 7pm UK/2pm BA, Almeria hosts Real Madrid. Two hours later, Valencia hosts Atletico Bilbao, with the two struggling for the final Champions League spot.

Friday April 16.   7:45 UK sees Inter hosting Juventus.

Anyway, that’s my football viewing schedule for the week.  Can’t wait for Champions League to resume!
